  • Dalhousie Tour Overview

Day 1Amritsar - Dalhousie (198 km - 4 hours 38 mins)

Pick up from Amritsar Airport / Railway station and transferred to Dalhousie. Quite a few Tibetan refugees have made a home in Dalhousie and there are painted rock carvings of Buddhist deities along the south side of the ridge. You can also visit the British-era churches of St John (1863) and St Francis (1894), set among the pines at opposite ends of the ridge. Unusually for a hill station there are few truly steep roads, but Dalhousie is spread out far enough to be tiring. The market areas at Subhash Chowk and Gandhi Chowk are linked by lanes – Thandi Sarak (Cold Rd), and Garam Sarak (Hot Rd). The latter lane receives more sunshine. Evening free for leisure activities. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2Dalhousie

Today morning after a filling delicious breakfast, set out for a local sightseeing tour of Dalhousie .There are four beautiful churches in Dalhousie. These are St. Andrew's Church and St. Patrick's Church at Balun, St. Francis church at Subhash Chowk and St.John's Church at Gandhi Chowk. Subhash Baoli was at this enchanting spot surrounded by majestic trees, that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose spent time in 1937, contemplating and meditating. Panchpula is a picturesque spot where a stream feed a series of pools. A monument has been built here in memory of the freedom fighter, Sardar Ajit Singh. Kalatop wild life sanctuary is a home to the 'ghoral' and Himalayan black bear. Overnight at the hotel in Dalhousie.

Day 3Dalhousie

Today visit Khajjiar - Often called India's Switzerland, the exquisite glade of Khajjiar (1960m) has a circumference of about 5 km. Along with its fringes, thick forests of deodar climb the slopes, snow-line rests above these woods. At Khajjiar there is a 12th century temple dedicated to KhajjI Nag. Within the temple are life size wooden images of the five Pandav brothers. Return back to the Hotel. Overnight stay at the Hotel.

A Brilliant Trip

We have been on a couple of cycling trips before and this one was probably the best. Tri our guide was outstanding and all our fellow cyclists were a great bunch of people. We got a real flavour of life in Vietnam. Lots of interesting food. The meals were good and plentiful. Thought we would lose weight but didn't! Good Hotels. Many highlights but a couple or so to point out,Whale Island and Hoi An, the 30km exhilarating downhill ride and cycling in city centre traffic...... great fun but leaves your heart racing. It is quite full on which leaves you wanting to spend more time in some of the places visited. The usual pattern is arrive at 5 - 6 pm, leave at 7.15 next morning. However we did find time to swim in the hotel pools. Overnight train was great fun ....all part of the adventure. To cover the length of the country there are some longish times in the bus but the bus was comfortable but great chance to talk with your fellow travellers. This also gives you time to see more of the country and people watch. Staggered us how much could be piled on a scooter! The bikes were ideal for the road conditions as well as being clean and very well maintained. At the frequent refreshment/rest stops there was lots of juice, water, fruit, nuts and biscuits. The driver and bike mechanic were very friendly and very competent. Great organization, things happened when Tri said they would.

Excellent, probably the best yet.

This was an amazing trip. Totally fell in love with Vietnam, We did so much in such in two weeks. The cycling, somehow. only felt like a small part of the experience as there were so many other things that we did. Each day was full on, exceptionally well organised, great food, etc Been on a few cycle trips, and I think this was the best one so far.
